The Norfolk Renal Fund

SOME BASIC
QUESTIONS &. ANSWERS
What is the Norfolk Renal Fund?
The Norfolk Renal Fund is a registered charity strongly linked to the local Renal Units at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, James Paget Hospital and Cromer Hospital.
Why was the charity established?
Local services for renal patients are excellent and over the years the quality of the service has been enhanced by charitable donations. While the NHS spends more and more each year on health services it cannot hope to provide everything. The Norfolk Renal Fund was therefore established to help supplement the NHS service but not to replace it.
What are the aims of the Norfolk Renal Fund?
We aim to improve the treatment of renal diseases in Norfolk in a number of ways. We have given numerous grants for the purchase of equipment to improve the treatment or comfort of patients with renal disease. For instance, in the last 7 years we have funded the purchase of 17 special dialysis chairs, 7 haemodialysis machines and 4 peritoneal dialysis machines, hoists and an ECG machine. We have also promoted research by funding local research projects in the field of renal disease, supported education and training for the staff treating patients with renal diseases and supplemented the local patients' charity (UNKPA) in their funding of trips for patients and their relatives. We are interested in increasing public awareness of kidney problems.
Who are the Trustees?
There are 5 Trustees: Mr P Norton is a local solicitor with Hansells, Mr M Graham is a local accountant with Banham Graham Chartered Accountants, Mrs A Thatcher is a retired school teacher and patient with renal failure who has received a kidney transplant and Dr A Heaton and Dr C N Ross are renal physicians.
How do I make a donation?
By cheque made payable to "The Norfolk Renal Fund" and sent to The Secretary, The Norfolk Renal Fund, Jack Pryor Unit, Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, Colney Lane, Norwich NR4 7UY
How do I request a grant?
You should set out your request clearly to Dr Heaton, stating the amount required and exact purpose. Any request should, of course, fit in with the aims of The Renal Fund. Your request will be considered by the Trustees and you will be informed of the outcome within 3 months.
Can the Renal Fund obtain a tax benefit from the donation?
